About The Artwork

Here is an opportunity to acquire two unique and beautiful bud vases which could be functional or equally stunning as ornaments. The effect of the surfaces on the vases is unusual. There are flashes of metallic colours that you expect from the raku surface but also a textured stone like effect was been achieved by applying a far thicker glaze than usual. As an ex-archaeologist I am reminded of the barnacled type of effect that is often to be found on vessels excavated from old marine sites. The vase on the left of the main image is 9.5" tall and has a maximum diameter of 2". The aperture at the top is 1". The vase on the right is slightly smaller at 9" tall, has a diameter of 2" at its base and an aperture of 1.25". What is Raku? Raku firing is a traditional Japanese pottery technique known for its unpredictability and unique results. It is often characterized by its crackled glaze and distinctive colors, and/or unusual textures, making it a sought-after art form for many collectors and enthusiasts. Pieces such as this can take anything up to 6+ hours each to make from start to finish. These two were both made from slabs and coils and then shaped Please note. I do not use a wheel for any of the vases and bottles that I make, preferring a longer process allowing me to create a closer sense of being with the forms I make.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been a ceramicist for more than 30 years. 99% of my work is made using coils, slabs and pinch pots with the occasional use of extruded forms and aslip casting. The emphasis of my work is scupltural and ornamental rather than utlitarian. I have a particular interest in the fusing and melding of glass to ceramics and this body of work is collected from as far afield as the Middle East and USA.
