Red heart (EL1) Sculpture

Handmade paper heart made with alternating strips of gold-stamped white tissue and red paper with gold stars. Inlay cut-out heart is from red metallic paper with edgin of gold-stamped white tissue. Edges are scalloped. Heart is decorated with small crystals and faux perals. Backing of cut-out is from fine gold mesh. Edges are trimmed with red paper with gold splashes. Hanger is from red ribbon with gold metallic edges with an amber bead. Back. Alternating strips of red paper with gold stars with gold paper. Overlay cut-out heats is from gold holographic paper. Lacquered paper. 23cm w x 27cm h ca 4cm deep 57g 2.05oz with box 248g 8.90oz I began working with papier mache molds and making paper hearts as a result of fractured shoulder and ruptured nerves in left shoulder to hand. Working with paper kept me quiet during the night when I wanted to howl at the moon from acute pain, but also a joy to bring something out of discarded paper. The mold is made from up-cycled packaging materials for bath salts and finished with various papers. As I gained control over work, I added papers and materials.
