ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Reduction-fired ceramic with slips and glazes. This piece was made as part of a residency at Cub Creek Pottery in Appomattox, Va. While absorbing the local culture and remembering my own upbringing in Virginia, I sourced some pot holders and doilies from local thrift stores. I made molds of these so that I could press positive copies of their textures. This piece is an array of pot holders and doilies radiating from their source or, alternately, this woman is expelling or erupting them upward and outward from her life.

Vicki Wilson began an apprenticeship to Retha Gambaro, noted bronze and stone sculptor, when she was 16 years old. She holds a BFA from PNCA and an MFA from PSU. She taught college art and design for 15 years before spending several years at ceramics residencies on the East Coast and then opening her own ceramics teaching studio on the Oregon Coast. After moving to Philomath, Vicki taught for LBCC and recently reopened her teaching studio in Corvallis.
