ABOUT THE ARTWORK
All of my work is for INDOOR DISPLAY only, signed and copyrighted-an original work I have a fascination with gorillas and orangutans.... Over the years have visited the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Wildlife Park taking many photographs of these great animals. Hope someday to go on a Safari in Africa or Borneo. From the photos taken, I have rendered some great graphite drawings as inspirations for the sculptures. This particular orangutan at the zoo was holding a manila rope, playing with it, so I incorporated the rope into the sculpture and the results are outstanding. Orangutans have large hands and I wanted the animal holding the rope letting it drape down on the base. I hope many viewers of this sculpture can attend a Safari in Africa or visit Borneo where Orangutans are. I also know that many collectors of this great animal will be intrigued by this free -standing sculpture carved in Honduras Mahogany and Alder wood for the base. If you have a space to fill in your home this piece is sure to generate many compliments and comments from visiting friends....

I've been a full-time artist since 1988 specializing in Sea and Animal wildlife in wood, both large heavy relief wall sculptures and "in the round" free standing work. All work is for indoor display only. I grew up in San Francisco in the Sunset District, a few blocks from the ocean and my dad ran 12 salmon fishing boats out of Fisherman's Wharf for over 30+ years. Although the commercial side of fishing did not interest me, the sea life did and the passion for creating the sculptures stemmed from that upbringing branching out also into animals of all kinds. Having a great drawing background shows in all the sculptures and carvings. Each piece is an original work, signed and copyrighted. My style is very different from most carvers and sculptors and this unique look attracts the public enjoying pieces in their homes or businesses.
