ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Sculptural wall hanging Schinken Bälle (ball-shaped ham) made of Styrofoam and plaster of Paris, 2021 This piece represents an obsession with colour, in particular ham-coloured objects. It shows imperfections, which makes each ball of ham unique - much like the obsession itself. Whether healthy or unhealthy, fascinations are intriguing to observe. Sometimes it might be down to the pure beauty and joy, sometimes something deeper such as avoidance. Avoidance of reality, emotions, things we should face and conquer but instead we prefer to dedicate our time to things that distract us from reality. Therefore, we should all embrace this piece of rawness as it embraces its own imperfections. What makes one enthusiastic about something or triggers them to become obsessed? I create three-dimensional art to express my experiences through traveling, daily life and people I have met along the way. It is very inspirational, to re-create captured memories through a three dimensional picture. Which may appear to be something different from the initial captured moment to the final executed imagination of a memory. Looking deeper at this work might encourage people to share their experiences and interests. It’s a representation of distinctive aspects of life. Furthermore it gives me the opportunity to learn about others, their passions and values. The artwork is made from plaster of Paris, which makes each piece very unique. Every single imprint is hollow which makes this art delicate. Each individual mould is made of either carved salty dough, card, wood pieces or plastic objects. All materials for the moulds are subject to what I want to express and create. Therefore it is a very unique way to achieve certain shapes.
