Sensuous walnut root burl Sculpture

I drove to the ghost town Mogollon to collect this uprooted walnut tree. A backhoe, a lorry, and much chainsawing were necessary to retrieve it. The 53kg block of wood eventually became 5kg in its finished form. The discovery of the myriad of colours and textures of this root burl are extraordinary. My previous experience as a ceramicist and the shape of the burl inspired this form.
