ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"Sentience" depicts a poignant embrace between a girl and an animal, purposefully leaving the animal's identity open to interpretation. When viewed as a dog, the connection between human and animal is readily apparent and understood. However, perceiving the animal as a cow may prompt us to question the extent of our compassion. This sculpture serves as a gentle reminder that our compassion should extend beyond the animals typically found within our personal domestic sphere. While we often offer care and empathy to pets like cats and dogs, it's crucial to recognize that all sentient beings merit our compassion. Whether they're cows, pigs, chickens, or any other creature, each is capable of experiencing emotions and sensations. By acknowledging and respecting the sentience of all beings, we affirm their intrinsic worth and dignity, advocating for their rights and well-being.
