“Single” because it represents a solitary journey, the metaphorical journey of those who continue to making ceramics often in solitude, like the writer, and those who experience the journey as the discovery of oneself and the world together. The vase, floral container par excellence, which summarizes and collects my passions, like nature, floriculture, simplicity, of materials, making with the hands, inclinations that led me to develop the ceramic-paperclay technique and the use of cardboard like casting molds, where I pour the liquid clay I prepared. Cardboard is a ductile, light material, I recycle it, cut it according to the shape I have designed and I assemble until the mold is formed. The liquid clay is poured inside several times, with layers that will give the thickness of the work. The layer closest to the cardboard adheres particularly similar to the skin or peel of a fruit. The final action of the process, when the vase is "peeled", reveals the texture left by the cardboard. I called it "Lightness Technique" due to the need to lighten, in practical and symbolic terms, the methodology of making traditional ceramics, the aesthetics of the shape and the shape itself. Lightness, as Italo Calvino claims in "American Lessons", as a value rather than a defect, as the subtraction

I live in Ravenna Italy, in my studio-home. I started my career as a ceramist in 1983 after attending the two-year INIASA ceramic course in my city, working as a decorator. I characterized my production with majolica inspired by the Byzantine mosaics of Ravenna and with the polychrome elaboration of a particular vine branch typical of the regional territory, marketing to private customers, shops, institutions by holding fairs and markets. Due to the need for large spaces, I moved my home and workshop to the countryside adjacent to the Po Delta Park for 15 years. Life in close contact with nature influenced the creation of landscape panels and bas-reliefs depicting the flora and fauna of the Delta , the Dunes of the sea and the abstract panels with carvings and reliefs. Curiosity about the use of materials other than ceramics led me to experiment with glass fusion, mosaic and papier-mâché. After my rural experience I lived and worked for several years in Dubai where I taught ceramic decoration at the Dubai International Art Center and at the Yadawey Ceramic Studio. I have exhibited at the Dubai Mall and for many years at the Alserkal Cultural Foundation, receiving prestigious commissions. Currently, driven by the search for symbolic and material lightness, I work with the experimental technique that I have called "Lightness Technique" with which I color the porcelain or liquid clays that I prepare myself, into recycled cardboard molds that I shape and assemble to create the conceived forms.
