About The Artwork

The underlying design came from a stained glass pattern handbook from the 1920s. The 'window' was made from a slab and then the window cames (the lead lines) of the design were carved out to create the effect seen here. Rather than fine crushed glass, larger broken beads of glass were added after the panel had been glazed prior to the glost firing. The panel was purposely fired at a lower temperature to ensure that the pieces of glass remained more obvious than if it had flowed, as in most other such work. This is one of a series of such panels, influenced by the stained glass pattern book, others of which may be found on the website. Whilst this piece is best displayed in a vertical positiion, such as using a plate holder as per the image, a felt backing can be provided for a nominal £6/$7 extra. The panel could also be mounted on a piece of wood or withina bespoke frame. A piece such as this will anywhere up to 20+ hours from start to finish when all stages of the process are factored in - creating the design, preparation of a slab, carving out the design, the bisque firing, application and painting of the underglaze colours and glazes, preparing and adding the crushed glass, and finally the second firing.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I have been a ceramicist for more than 30 years. 99% of my work is made using coils, slabs and pinch pots with the occasional use of extruded forms and aslip casting. The emphasis of my work is scupltural and ornamental rather than utlitarian. I have a particular interest in the fusing and melding of glass to ceramics and this body of work is collected from as far afield as the Middle East and USA.
