Týr’s hand of courage. Celestials collection. In Norse mythology Týr (the Norse god of war, whose primary role was to uphold law and justice) sacrifices his hand to trap Loki’s ferocious offspring Fenrir, the giant wolf, who bites off his hand while the gods bind the animal.Tyr’s legacy once known as ‘Tyr’s day’, is the word ‘Tuesday.’ The piece is created entirely by hand, an amalgam of reclaimed material fragments & paints and is part of a series of artworks created for the Celestials collection. Celestial is a term referring to heavenly bodies such as stars, constellations, and planets, named after mythical deities & creatures. Since ancient times the names of celestial bodies have been passed on with their myths and are still with us today. From the Latin word ‘caelestis’ sky. Designed to be displayed on a wall.

Max Green is a multidisciplinary artist & designer, who creates mixed media art pieces, transforming reclaimed, vintage and found materials through a combination of self taught processes to create his works. He is influenced by a love of the patina left by the passage of time, frayed forgotten objects, cracked, eroded fragments, faded memories: and the idea of these threads unraveling to reawaken in new forms. Since childhood he has loved collecting unusual things that caught his eye, often during long walks beachcombing or fossil hunting on the South Downs. Max has three decades of experience as a creative designer, illustrator & artist working in a number of leading studios in Brighton, London and the South West, he has created designs that have sold around the world. Max was born in London, grew up in Chichester on the south coast and currently lives in South West England, working In a small studio with a big ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’.
