This piece is part of a new series spawned from the Beacon series where I've allowed myself to 'let go' some control over the material...in this case, mostly resin. In its fluid state, the curing plastic will surprise if left to its own will. Predictability of its final hardened state of appearance is only possible with complete control using carefully placed blocking devices and molding techniques. By scaling back my hand in controlling the flow of the material, I become merely a guide for the work. By pulling back a bit, I found I will be more prone to learning and discovering new ideas. It is humbling to witness how some man-made materials have the ability to achieve their own beauty through the nature of physics.

Trevor O'Neil is best known for his furniture, object, and lighting designs that push the limits of convention. For the past two decades, his focus remained centered on the designed object world experimenting with any and all materials available to man. His use of cork as a structure material has heavily influenced the furniture design world (see his cork sofa) and his imaginative lighting has earned him accolades and awards across the globe. Through years of experimenting with materials both manufactured and developed by him, O'Neil accumulated a vast amount of abstract material creations and know-how. And, within the last several years, his fascination with the beauty of these materials drew his attention away from the objects they were intended for, becoming the new, central focus of his work.
