ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My work has been informed by nature and it's organic forms, which have a connection with traditional craft, skills and human mythologies. These have become narratives within my work, due to my rural background and strong affiliation with the land that surround me, that converge with the relationship of my canine companions. My work alludes to the juxtaposition of archaic tradition and classism of my artistic predecessors that coincide with contemporary notions. This amalgamation of ideas and skills are then fused together to lend itself to a unique identity. This piece assimilates the institutionalised ideal of Victorian diorama and converges with the notion of 'the death of hunting with dogs', using form and materials as symbolic signifiers. Throe away, natural materials have been utilised within this piece in the form of animal pelts and coppiced hazel with foliage, to allude to our primordial roots that have been abstracted throughout history.
