As an artist I choose to be a visual artist. My earlier works mark my rigorous engagement with process of making drawings, paintings, installations and fine relief sculptures. I have worked in mixed media throughout my life but one thing that keeps me awake is doing night landscapes. I start my night landscape at around sunset with the night growing fast and darkness coming; night is often referred to as black or dark but as an Artist I tend to see a grayscale of colorful colors like mixed Prussian blue with a tinge of sap green, cobalt blue, magenta, yellow making a variety of colors for the darkness, for the light to come out. This play in oil color with its thick application on canvas makes it bold and strokes make it abstract. We know how Mumbai is crowded with its buildings and slums, the complexity and simplicity seen at the same time is what I paint and like. Slums have this unexpected structure wherein they seem to be like, this mountain of houses, light passes through forming shapes with darkness just beside it and I see huge buildings in background; this is what I exactly like to paint because a crowd of forms is present and I have a vision for seeing color at night with a different perspective making my own kind of color palette. I am exploring the darkness to make light come out of it and from where I am right now, I realized that what I paint is simple but me.
