This steel sculpture helps to bring those old legends to life. The fish is a Northern Pike - and quite a large one by Arizona standards. He would find himself quite comfortable hanging on any wall. From a humble fishing shack near a lake to an expansive basement bar - he's large enough to immediately inspire a good conversation! The sculpture is one-sided and in high relief. The patina is a natural amber. Color is further enhanced by the technique of welding linear patterns onto to the back of the steel to change the color and texture of the opposing surface. I'm a sculptor and metalworker producing artwork inspired by the spectacular wildlife in the Southwestern desert. I believe art must not be static for it to connect. It has to feel kinetic, jarring, moving. I try to mix the physical and anatomical aspects of the animals I sculpt with the way they move or behave in nature. I love nice clean lines mixed with the rough, volcanic process of forging and working steel. All of the hours I put into a piece is documented on it's surface.
