Inspired by stone and the spiritual aspect of a vessel. The womb series is evocative of humanity and nature. The transitory nature of the process of rebirth manifest in an object that is hard and permanent where it should be soft and temporary. The pool of white that reflects the thaw of spring and the passing of water, also temporary and yet fixed in time.
The work in this series is made from a variety of different clays. The color variations are a result only of the mixing of the different raw colors of the clay itself. There is no glaze of any sort on the work and therefore the clay retains its rough quality.
The pool is the result of melting glass within the vessel, and is nearly one inch deep in the center, giving the cracked matrix of the glass depth.
This work is the current manifestation of over 15 years experience working with clay as a sculptural medium.
