Tubular Man is carved from a block of oak which has been covered with liming wax which gives it a white effect. It was carved with chisels and sanded smooth. It is a continuation of my work carving people but with a surreal twist. It is not just about what we show on the outside, the superficial, but a search for the inner person.

Born in Manchester England. Secondary education at a Polish Boarding School in Paris, France. Currently live in Brighton, UK. Work in public and private collections including Art Council of GB. I make sculpture, with wood being the dominant material. It is carved and constructed. I use colour a lot in my sculptures. I am now producing a series of paintings on canvas and wood. I was a contemporary of Anthony Gormley at the Slade School of Art in the 1970's in London. I have been using colour in my artwork for 40 years, ever since my days at the Slade where the professors would talk about me as the "best painter in the sculpture department".
