Halfway through the construction project of the series "Nothing New Under The Sky?", which is based on the book by Ecclesiastes, I realized the need to establish parallels between the life of the animal kingdom and the vegetable kingdom, in order to evoke the concepts of earth, time and transformation. So I proposed to make a piece that could both resemble a tree root and our body's vascular system. For this purpose, I built a long central axis with several branches and sub-branches, using aluminum mesh that was later covered with aluminum wire, purposely allowing to see its interior. This piece intends (also) to emphasize the tensions and complexities of the networks that form the living body as a matter in continuous transformation, also proposing the idea that throughout existence, all living bodies are fixed in territories, absorbing knowledge through experiences and events to which they are submitted. In addition to the concepts mentioned above, the work, due to its positioning in space, intends to lead the observer to reflect on the ideas of fragility, the ephemeral and transience, always taking into account the beauty and sacredness of matter.

I am born in Lisbon in 1960 and I live and work in Palmela. My academic formation, was decisive for my work as a visual artist, once it gave me a better understanding of Space and its mutation in Time, as well as the desire for exploration and experimentation of new materials, I started to make exhibitions as a painter in 96. Over the years, I developed my work through visual and written research on contemporary art. In 2011, I abandoned painting, and I started to investigate human perception of visual elements, within the transparent bi dimensional supports. Now I'm looking for their relationship in sculpture. The main influences in my work, come from observation of nature ( mainly the human nature), the reading of philosophical authors, and a special friendship, with the painter Fernando Calhau. This association of factors in conjunction with intuition and experience, has transforme my first contents of work, in poetic thoughts of philosophical nature, formalize more and more in the sum of many subtractions.
