This wall sculpture made from wood scraps is intended as an environmental statement, with the old growth stump and the new growth sapling in front of it. The metal elements are small brass brads, (intentionally left exposed), and a few small pieces that are wrapped in patinated copper foil. The pieces are all attached to a black plywood base. The artwork is largish and requires adequate space around it. Intended as a focal piece/ statement. Best hung using french cleats (provided). They allow the piece to be held very securely, and always level, but requires a bit more work to install. (As an alternate, D-rings and braided wire is also provided, but using this method is won't hand quite flat against the wall.) The colors are mostly neutral and so can fit is many palette schemes. The technique is one that I use frequently now, with subject matter carefully chosen to fit the method and my mind set. This is the first of a new series, all using stump variations. I'm currently working on the third version.

I value the gestural mark, the traces of the human hand in artwork, imperfection and pieces that seek to involve the viewer, requiring them to complete the piece before them. My themes vary widely, wherever my soul, or my nose, takes me. My work is always starts with sketches and studies. I enjoy working with a subject and exploring it repeatedly in multiple pieces that vary in scale and media as a way of challenging my own perception and preconceived notions. I hope the viewer of these also has an experience of renewal and fresh ways of looking.
