This piece is inspired by collusion of city and desert. The ever expanding cities encroach on the desert but in time the deserts take back their terrain but not before blending.
The city can be a brutal place but the people find away to live and survive with very little. The desert can also be very unforgiving place but the cactus always finds a way to survive, also off of very little.

Urban Sprawl is the first in a series of sculptures to come, representative of our expansion and sometimes not so smooth collusion of city and nature.

I welded this sculpture out of scrap steel then added paint, ink and rust. Various tags are by me and various Los Angelenos as well as noted LA street artist Gavin Kopell aka "1987" adding trade mark tags and paint splotches and patterns.

This piece is made of steel and sit on a solid 1/8 inch thick 8 inch wide steel plate. It comes looking well weathered but made to endure.
