There is something uncanny about mushrooms. They seem to be plants, but they are not green. Eaten, they are sometimes gourmet treats, sometimes poison. Small wonders - they are seen as magical - demonic or divine. Mushrooms vegetate in tangled threads of mycelium which can live for hundreds of years. Symbolically, mushrooms evoke unexpected manifestations of what is already proliferating in invisible vegetative dimensions. Mushrooms are associated with bivalent spirits and sacred rituals that conjure their potency. This sculpture was created as one-of-a-kind from the whitest porcelain for the art exhibition at D Contemporary Gallery, Mayfair, London in 2022. It is meticulously handsculpted with such a unique attention to details that mushrooms seem to be moving. With its artistic excellence and organic shape, this porcelain sculpture is sure to add touch of nature to any space. Whether in her studio or on her countless hikes in nature, porcelain artist Xenia Busalova dreams in colour and shape, conjuring up timeless poetry of porcelain. Xenia lives and works in London where she graduated from the Royal College of Art and InnovationRCA. Many years of independent art practice, numerous exhibitions including, but not limited, Royal Academy of Arts, fine art galleries and two biennales ensured the works by Xenia Busalova Studio are now included in both public and private collections and she has a growing international collector base.

After a decade of the career in corporate finance I got of the path, moved country and started building a new career all over again but this time as an artist. Now I work with porcelain. Porcelain has been regarded as the most prestigious type of ceramics for its delicacy, strength, and the purest of white colour. Porcelain has attitude. The elemental substance of the porcelain is such that there is no waste - everything can be recycled and reused, returned into the making. The environmental aspects are fundamental and remain at the core of my artwork. There is the concept embedded in a physical material itself- “transience, emotion, moment, memory, trace, passage of time”. Porcelain offers the ability to capture marks and features. After years of tests and experiments I developed a patentable technique of encapsulating organic material in porcelain. I collect plants, flowers all over the world, dip them in liquid porcelain and fire in the kiln at 1400 °C. The plant gets caught up in a porcelain and burns out leaving only hollow fossilized shell with all the spikes, leaves, veins. Something that would decay without a trace, turns into a stone instead, becomes a solidified timeless poetry, a little wearable sculpture. Two years ago I founded my creative brand of porcelain jewellery FARPHORIA. “FARPHORIA” originates from the merge of two words: “FARFOR” that translates as “PORCELAIN” and “EUPHORIA”. Nature provides the material. I only transform it in an instrumental way, adding the trace of handmaking.
