The combatant is either the vanquished or the victor. The paradigm is the existence of evil vs. good, which depends on what the moral truth is for that society. Cultures require individuality as each culture has mores and rituals and superstitions imbedded into the fabric of each of its members with a certain deviation allowed or not allowed depending on the laws of that culture. An evil act in any society is one, which causes harm to a section or piece of that society by intentionally ignoring the mores. It may be intentional with purpose or it may be as a result of another action, which occurred naturally without forethought. When a person is a combatant, he uses his societal mores to incur as much injury as he is allowed to inflict by his society to deter the foe from committing an evil act on the society. Many civilizations have fallen and many have risen from their own hand by setting in motion reactions within their own borders. What happens when two societies meet and each uses their combatants to protect their borders from evil being committed against their citizens? Where is justice measured? How do we create a universal justice? This is where compromise is required. Compromise is an art form in itself since each arbiter requires an understanding of their individual culture saving their most sacred elements. When these structures are compromised the civilization is jeopardized. As the pendulum swings so to does the universal justice that we all seek.
