Viruses are incredible, mind boggling things. It is fantastic to consider such a minuscule form, bringing 'mighty' humans to a grinding halt, pause, whatever this intense situation unfolds to be.
I've wanted to create a series about microbial forms for years. I spied some wonderfully corroded old fashioned nails, with pyramid heads, raised and blued some steel domes which I welded to larger, bright steel nails. To these I added bronze. Each is set in an Oregon sphere. (I wanted to call it corodenailvirus and joke about how I'd nailed it. I kept the working title out of respect for those who've suffered and the somber nature of recent events.) I was pleased with its cartoon like presence. I often imagine my works as Hayao Miyazaki characters. This one was the first of three, begun as the Wuhan situation unfolded, and is certainly a darker beast than its peers.
