About The Artwork

This bright and colorful metal wall sculpture commemorates voyagers through the ages on pilgrimages to the holy land while enduring the hardships at sea beneath the broiling sun. It was inspired by the writings of the 12th century Spanish Jewish poet and philosopher Yehuda Halevi. There is a wide variety of colorful sea life swimming among and between the rolling waves and seeming to float in mid air. The many colorful fish in different shapes and sizes will brighten up your living room or office. *This amazing sculpture is constructed from no less than 29 parts including a rich assortment of 15 fish in different colors shapes and sizes, as well as a whale, 2 star fish, and a coral. Of course there is also our ancient pilgrim in his little sail boat fighting the waves. There are 3 separate layers of waves and 2 layers of sun spiraling forward in the center. *The sun measures 16 inches (40.6 cm) across. *The waves are made of 3 mm thick, laser cut aluminum. It is hand painted in bright shades of blue. There are 3 layers. Some of the waves spiral forward giving interest and depth to this awesome piece of sculpture. It is 28 inches (71 cm) high and 5'11" (181 cm) long. The 3 layers come to a total depth of about 4 inches (10 cm) a bit wider where the wave tips curve forward. The back layer is darkest and the front is the lightest shade of blue, which adds to the impression of depth. *All other parts are made of 2 mm thick laser cut aluminum. *Leon is a jewelry designer, and is now exploring the new direction of wall sculpture. You can see that he treats every detail as meticulously as a piece of jewelry. He hand paints all the details to make a beautiful and original work of art.

Leon Israel’s sculpture designs are organic, flowing, and inspired by nature. Some of his favorite inspirations are leaves, flowers, birds and ocean waves. This wall art begins as laser cut metal, but becomes much more than that. Leon uses his many years of experience in metal working to bend, shape, layer and bring his designs to life. Then he paints them in vivid colors. Leon Israel studied jewelry design at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Israel's foremost art school has been designing and producing gold jewelry for many years. His jewelry has received awards including the DeBeers “Diamonds International Award”. His works have been featured in museum exhibits in Israel and in the books “Crafts of Israel by Ruth Dayan, and “Jewellery in Israel” by Iris Fishof. Leon’s jewelry is like miniature sculpture. So it was a natural development for him to branch out and design on a much larger scale. The wall art is much larger, but every detail is treated as meticulously as a piece of jewelry to make beautiful and original home décor.
