Walrus skull on a stainless steel cross.

The premise of this project questions the inability of the Human race to live and share our planet with our fellow animals. We are taking over the earth and driving to extinction a great number of species.

Does extinction have a cost?

The history of crucifixion dates back to the Assyrians and ancient Persians well before the Romans (Pre-Christian era) used it as a very brutal form of death for disgraced soldiers, murderers, slaves etc.

And now the numbers of our relentless killing of animals for sport, food, clothing, etc exceeds the millions if not billions per year. Crucifixion on a mass scale.

This Walrus skull is well over 50 years of age and was most likely found by native Alaskans. Its ivory tusks have authentic Eskimo scrimshaw etched into it.

This was my first foray into the world of sculpture and at points it seemed to go on forever. It was tiring yet so utterly fulfilling. And it has opened my mind toward welding, woodworking and many other artistic directions.

Born: New York. Victor Spinelli has visually documented cultures, religions, landscapes and people. After becoming an Eagle Scout and obtaining a Bachelors of Arts degree in Architecture at the University of Buffalo he started a Hot Air Balloon Bungee Jumping business which he sold after 2 years and started photographing. During the past 20+ years Victor Spinelli has split his time between New York, the Mediterranean and California. The photography skills and artistry that he developed along his travels have evolved into several multimedia platforms such as film, commercials, music videos, documentaries and print campaigns. Globetrotting though about 80 countries led Victor to Mykonos, Greece where he first started making a living on his photography for three summers. After which, Victor was drawn to another island in the Mediterranean: Ibiza, Spain. While in Ibiza, he was brought on board by Manumission, a surreal theatrical clubbing party, to document the inside of its production. Many of his photographs captured the “Fellini-esque” happenings of Manumission and have gone down in Ibiza lore. Victor now resides in Ibiza full time and is soundly immersed in his art that has evolved into panting, sketching and of course sculpture. Victors has had commercial success with clients like, HBO, NBC, 20th Century Fox, Law & Order, A&E Biography, Harman Pro Audio, Peavey Guitars, The Travel Channel, MusicJustMusic, Pacha, the Argentinean ski resort of Las Leas, and the Italian Trade Commission. SPiN Galleries in Shanghai China was launched in March 2013. In 2022, Victor orchestrated the construction of an 8 meter (24 foot) fiberglass and steel sculpture of his popular photograph “Diver UP” for Burning Man. This symbolized a metamorphosis of not only the evolution of Diver UP, but also a demarcation point of his career thus beginning a new chapter within it.
