Made from English royal porcelain, hand building on a cast, firing temperature 1250* Celsius, one of a kind. The work is inspired by Italian renaissance portraits, such as Italian sculptors of the 15th century Desiderio da Settignano and Francesco Larana. Porcelain combines resilience and tenderness, smoothness and micro-details, matte and shinning. It’s good as a shape and surface, a material for sculpture and a basis for a painting. Porcelain is a luхury material, and it used to be called white gold.

Kateryna Kalinina is a Ukrainian artist who graduated from the National Academy of Art. She’s been working in different mediums, including painting, gesso, and art dolls while changing the place of residence from Ukraine to USA and back. Today, she commits herself to the porcelain sculpture, challenging it with the limits of the material and realistic impressions. Porcelain features attract Kateryna with the combination of resilience and tenderness, smoothness and micro-details, matte and shinning. It lets her work with shape and surface, use it as a material for sculpture and as a basis for a painting. Porcelain is a luхury material, which used to be called white gold. Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the Renaissance, and the Nothern Renaissance are Kateryna’s primary sources of influence. Other influences are the modern artists-porcelainists who continue the figurative sculpture with references to classic art, such as Vipoo Srivilasa, Sophie Woodrow, Kate Macdowell, Sergei Isupov, Chris Antemann, Claire Partington. The forms of the human body, natural objects, bones are the central source of her inspiration. Kateryna Kalinina’s artworks belong to Ukraine, Russia, the Czech Republic, Israel, and the USA. Her gesso project devoted to Ukrainian poet Ivan Franko stays in the Museum of Outstanding Figures of Ukrainian Culture in Kyiv.
