ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Most people never see or touch the material I choose to make my work. I challenge common construction materials to become vulnerable and transform into something for which they were never intended. Lath wire, concrete, joint compound, drywall, glass and roofing paper all find their way into my sculpture. I add color with aerosol, chemical patination, house paint or heat. Accentuating and introducing pattern, line and form through digital photography and print. The push and distortion of standard forms, scale and the rules of fabrication to reveal emotion, human energy, questions about our notions of ‘home’ and personal sanctuary .......and to begin a conversation.

Born in Los Angeles, California in 1956, K. Anders Anderson (Kersteen) is an American artist whose work explores the materials, structures, and forms in the built environment, as it relates to our personal experiences of home space, and our presence in that space. Anderson's fascination with art began as a small child, and she painted, drew and created Fiber Art for many years before setting it all aside to focus on raising her family, and in later years, creating a successful decorative paint contracting company. During this time she focused on decorative, furniture and specialty finishes, becoming known for her innovative use of color and mastery of complex finishes. Her painting company also established a leadership program for its female painting staff, realizing higher skillsets in the field and increased confidence on a construction job site. A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from California State University, Long Beach 1980, post graduate work at the Isabel O’Neil Foundation Studio in New York City and her painting work in television, theater and public entertainment¬, paved the way for her to showcase her work in some of the most noteworthy residences and public spaces in the world. She is influenced by the work of Louise Nevelson, Leonardo Drew, Robert Rauschenberg, Katharina Grosse and Phyllida Barlow. Currently, Kersteen is working on a private commission and preparing a body of work for future exhibition. She lives in Palm Desert, California with her husband.
