The woman is chisseled out of one of the two wooden joints of a Bailey Bridge I ran into while visiting a lumberyard. The two pieces stood upright from the ground, suggesting to me the image of two heads rising out of the Earth. As the two types of wood used to make the joints originated from Africa, it seemed appropriate to refer to their roots. The other image of 'Man / The African Ancestor' is also featured in my collection of artworks.
