This sculpture ‘wonder’ was made with the inspiration of the work done by the Liberian Chimp Rescue, a charity who rescue the young chimps poached from the wild to go into the illegal pet trade in Liberia. In my works I aim to bridge the gap between us and the natural world, as the animals I create are depicted showing the same thoughts, feelings and emotions as we do as humans. We can relate to the feeling of wonder this young chimp portrays – we all speak the same natural language and the Earth brings the same feeling of wonder to all of it’s creations – we just need to take the time to stop and notice. The butterfly also symbolises the change that is yet to come.

I am a ceramic wildlife artist born in Newton Abbot, specialising in hand building techniques with stoneware and porcelain. I have also co-ordinated a range of local community and school projects, alongside an international art project in recent years. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History, I began training with multiple award-winning animal sculptor Nick Mackman and have been creating my own wildlife art ever since. As a Specialist Leader of Education, I have also been helping to develop the provision of art within schools across the country.
