I wove twelve separate sections from old Levi's and Wrangler jeans, then wove them together, attached the weaving to a wooden frame, then worked in layers of paint, latex, plaster, acrylic and ink. I thought of fading, symbol erosion, unraveling, destruction and rebuilding, and love and hope, of course, when I worked on this piece. Not sure whether it's a painting or a sculpture, certainly not a weaving anymore, but an independent creature, exploring all the facets of its being. Soft bits and unraveled threads co-exist with hardened material inviting acceptance and inclusion. A striking piece, it has an amazing presence.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An exploration of weaving from denim - I took apart my old Levi's and Wrangler jeans shredding them into strips, wove them together, attached the weaving to a wooden frame, then worked in layers of paint, latex, plaster, acrylic and ink. I thought of fading, symbol erosion, unraveling, transformation, destruction and rebuilding, love and hope, when I worked on this piece. This artwork is an independent creature, exploring all the facets of its being. Soft bits and unraveled threads co-exist with hardened material inviting acceptance and inclusion. A striking piece, it has an amazing presence. Equipped with hanging wire. Ready to hang.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation.
