About The Artwork

Vernika Singh(b .1993) is a sculptor based in New Delhi. Completely self-taught, Singh draws inspiration from the movements encountered by the human body. Her work revolves around the themes of 'Acrobatics', 'Yoga' and 'Dynamic movements'. In her practice expanding nearly over a decade,Singh has made a place for herself in the most promising emerging talents of India. Her works are parts of many corporate and private collections around the world : 'Husch Blackwell', 'Nine dotArts', 'Amitabh Kant(Former CEO Niti Aayog)', 'Atul Nanda(Former Advocate General Punjab)' to name a few. From the artist : The inspiration for my Yoga series comes from my mother .She has been practicing and teaching Yoga for almost 17 years. She got introduced to Yoga as a kid in her school programme. After school she lost touch, but then again found it years later just to realize that she still has the same devotion towards it. For her Yoga directly associates to ‘nirogi kaya’ or a body free of all diseases. The idea of ‘dynamism’ always attracted me. As a sculptor, I am focused on catching the sense of movement into my works. Most of the works that I make are those of sportspersons or dancers. I try to capture certain energetic moves performed by these people. My liking for dynamism in movements went up a notch when I started making installations. The subject of these installations ‘balloon’ was so different yet so similar. I saw floating balloons as one would a dancing human figure. The balloons have so much energy and watching these fly could be so joyful; the way wind moves them in space talks so much about dynamism.
