You're Okay, Son (Blinded Liberties) Sculpture

This series of sculpture considers how we might maintain humanity in a not-too-distant dystopian future. The work explores the subversion of patriotism and religion by leaders who try to entice, confuse, and bully us to place our love of country and/or church above the values they represent. It examines the effects of false narratives created to lure us into sucker bets with our individual freedoms. “You’re Okay, Son. I’ve Got You. (Blinded Liberty)” shows a youth blinded by patriotism, precariously balancing his life with measures of success on each side of him, all weighing heavily on his shoulders. He is being carried by a new, strange authoritarian creature, who provides a false sense of support and well-being. Similarly, “Right This Way, Son. (Blinded Liberty)” has a creature guiding a youth toward an unknown battleground.
