This work is one of a limited series of 7 minimalist 3D panels made in 2017. (To me this work is sculptural. Collage is the description that best fits this site but it is not how I would describe this work.) Inspired by colour field paintings from the 40s and 50s, these original works were made by applying acrylic paint and rubbing charcoal on strips of decommissioned firehose, then attaching them to wood boards in abstract configuration. The title suggests our civic responsibility to respond to the alarm signals about rising temperatures on the planet and climate change. I employ the building material as metaphor - industrial fire hose and wood - ironically reclaimed in my art making. The piece simultaneously suggests order (repeating stripes) and calamity (hot colours, burnt charcoal), the paradox of the climate crisis era in which we live. Bold aesthetically and politically, best suited for large spaces. (increased price reflects new relationship with fine art gallery)
