Gerhard Hoehn (1966) is an artist who enjoys working in various media. Within his body of work, variability is the causal theme. When you enter Gerhard's studio in the heart of the island of Ibiza, the breadth and diversity of the work he has created in the past ten years will surprise you. Gerhard's personal style is rooted in his sense of aesthetics. In his artistic vocabulary, design, sculpture and painting are equally important. He is fascinated by the variety of possibilities and the challenges that each of these disciplines present him with. Each new creation is an adventure in a creatively open process to make the unknown visible and tangible using everyday objects. For the most part, the ideas for future designs arise in his thoughts while he is in the process of creating his work. Gerhard consciously chooses to work with unconventional materials. To him, his work is also about discovering new functions in things and giving them a different purpose. His unusual light sculptures astonish the viewer. They not only provide illumination, but are also sculptural objects of art that are characterized by their idiosyncratic design and experimental, high-contrast mix of materials. The sensual charisma emanating from his light sculptures is captivating, an effect that is caused on the one hand by their materiality and on the other hand by the aesthetic language of their diverse structures. Unique, just like us humans, each light sculpture has its own special charm and creates a singular atmosphere. Each object tells a story in which the histories of the materials used form the chapters.
