Wall-Sculpture:
Metal (shopping cart cage), beach-string, on house & gold leaf painted wood base.
I documented the metal shopping cart, the bull's-head form for this artwork, for a period of about nine months. It was during the time of my Mother's decline due to serious illness. My Mother was born in 1937.
The cart had been pushed over the edge of a cliff, onto the rocks & sand of a small rugged cove below. During low-tide it was accessable by climbing down the cliff-face, enabling me to photograph its gradual change of form caused by the forces of the sea. It would disappear for weeks at a time, buried under sand & shingle, or pulled into deeper waters. I eventually retrieved the battered metal frame from a small cave.
'Beachbull Wall-Shrine' was, in part, inspired by the following artworks by Picasso:
'Guernica' which includes the image of a bull's head(1937). Weeping Woman' (1937), and his found object sculpture 'Bull's Head' (1942).

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Wall-Sculpture: Metal (shopping cart cage), beach-string, on house & gold leaf painted wood base. I documented the metal shopping cart (the bull's-head form) for a period of about nine months. The cart had been pushed over cliff-edge, smashing onto the rocks of a small rugged cove below. During low-tide it was accessible by climbing down the cliff-face, enabling me to photograph its gradual change of form, caused by the forces of the sea. I attached the orange beach-string to make the object more visible, it would often disappear, buried under sand & shingle or be pulled into deeper waters. I eventually retrieved the battered metal frame from a small cave. 'wall-shrine weeping bull' was partly inspired by Picasso's 'Guernica' which includes the image of a bull's head(1937), 'Weeping Woman' (1937), & 'Bull's Head' (1942).
