I am a self taught artist with a permanent disability. I am inspired by the artists Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko. My work focuses on the movement of paint on canvas and the interaction between the colors present.
I paint in a variety of sizes because I believe that even small movements are as important and beautiful as grand gestures. Choosing the right colors for a piece is something that I give a great deal of weight to and often spend hours to days considering. The wrong colors can easily ruin a piece of work for me.
My process begins with a liquid, flowing paint dripped and thrown using a household kitchen knife onto a canvas that is lying flat in front of me. My palette consists of a variety of colors that complement or contrast one another. I use between 2 to 4 different colors on my canvases, as well as treating the canvas as it's own separate color or background. Each color is applied as a layer and allowed to dry before additional colors are added.
