Erkan Aladağ
Erkan Aladag was born in 1982 in Izmir (Turkey), where he also completed his high school, university and master’s degrees in painting teacher.
In his early works, the artist mainly focused on realist pastel and oil paintings. These works exemplified influences from the Dutch Genre painting. In these works, he is on a quest to unravel the holy trinity of light, colour and space. His desire to capture a deeper meaning through personal experiences and different readings of his work are at the forefront of these realist art works. Thus, he aims to avoid a perception of his works as simplistic representations of figures and space.
In his later works, the artist can be seen to focus more on space perception and figures within. Here the artist starts to create his figure-heavy clip art style derived from the influences of his cultural heritage, his artistic stance and his reading of the forerunners of the Western painting such as Richard Hamilton, Robert Rauschenberg and Kurt Schwitters.
