ABOUT
RECOGNITION

Born and raised in Athens, I started to paint soon after earning my diploma in graphic arts. I first exhibited in 2010 among established artists, in "35 artists exhibit their works on Global Poverty" at Technopolis in Athens. I have illustrated three books and my work has been featured in various magazines and hotels.
I moved to Syros island in 2013 where I founded and currently own Plastico café-gallery, an alternative meeting place for artists, musicians, writers and friends.
During the pandemic and the subsequent period of confinement, what began as an exercise in calmness and self-reflection evolved into the development of my personal artistic identity and the creation of a new body of artwork.

"Spiros does not follow the traditional style of chiaroscuro - there is none of that in his work yet with a limited and subtle colour palette his work maintains depth. Importantly, when viewing his artworks, one becomes aware of the absence of shadows, purposefully done to create the feeling of timelessness. In the one painting he unexpectedly paints a horse, out of place, out of time, a dry well but somehow the horse was still standing, seemingly in slavery, timeless and still."
