Barb Derousie

Barb was raised on the coastal light stations of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, with the sea as her front yard.

Being out in nature, whether she’s on the beach or walking through BC’s old growth forests, remains Barb’s inspiration to create.

2013-2020-Barb took Watercolor art courses and workshops over the years since 2013, from instructors such as Greg Swainson, Jennifer Olson, Linda Anderson and Elaine Hughes.

2020-present-Then in 2020 she took a 12 week online art course called the Creative Visionary Program. Not only did this learning facilitate her understanding of art in general, but she started to use acrylic and mixed media, leaning to an abstract style. This new way of painting allowed for much more freedom and has Barb painting more from what she feels rather than being restricted by a reference.

Barb hosted her first solo art show, “The Turning Point”, held from January 26-February 13, 2022 featuring a collection of 30 pieces of her most recent work, as well as her “art boxes”, “mini art blocks” and “wearable Art Earrings”.
