Barbara Soterio

Her research is developed on the vast imagery that exists around the human figure. She works with the graphic representation of fluid movements, which are developments of what we understand as reality. The themes represented in her work show the trivial as the protagonist, disguising it in mysterious scenes. Her intention is to make the observer give itself to the reading of her images, an alternative reading, which does not seek explanations for absurdities, only a connection with something that was made to watch.
Graduated in Printmaking at the School of Fine Arts / UFRJ (Escola de Belas Artes/UFRJ) in 2008, she participated in several group exhibitions and has already made seven individual exhibitions, including the Centro Cultural da Justiça Federal. In 2017 she made two artistic residencies, one with Coletivo Itaquatiara in Recife, where she created some lithographs; and another at Atelier de l'Île, in Val-David, Canada, developing a series of five etchings (where she also had the opportunity to show her prints in an exhibition at the studio’s gallery and to offer two printmaking workshops).
