Berni Castillo

I was born in Santiago of Chile in 1980.

During some of the earlier years of my career as an artist (1999-2013) I experimented with different formats and resources to achieve aesthetic results that go beyond the limits of the painting, taking the exhibition space into consideration as much as the objects in practice of oil t painting.

Since my arrival in France (2016) I have focused on the act of Painting itself, its properties; the material, the stain, the color, the different densities as well as the limitations that painting on canvas has.
​
As a painter, I care a lot about this space that is created during the act of painting, the one that we only manage to grasp during the creative process, the transitional space, the space of play (D.Winnicot, H.Fiorini)
​
The final product is just one layer of this creative movement. My production in art is linked to painting and its transformation over time, as if painting and life were layers that follow one another.
My personal history comes to modulate my works.
