About Brent Redding
Born 1954, Napier, New Zealand, where he now lives. A contemporary painter who has been full-time since 1993, exhibiting both locally and in Australia. He has had several New Zealand awards. He also works as a graphic artist, muralist and tutor.
The artists inspiration generally comes from life, people and the human psyche; and at times, specifically from poetry and music. He often employs pattern and unusual design structures, and frequently uses outline and suppression of depth to enhance the 2D arrangement. The resulting artworks mostly have a surreal quality, but often hint at other genres. Brent's approach remains experimental, and hence the style a little fluid. The subject matter and motivation seem to persist, and he often revisits subjects in new ways.
Brent is self taught. His past solo exhibitions include;
1995 - Watling Gallery, Gold Coast, Australia.
1996 - TVH Gallery, Sydney, Australia.
1998 - TVH Gallery, Sydney, Australia.
