I am an English artist living and working in Vietnam since 2012. The Covid lockdowns gave me time and space to rediscover the artist I had hidden away for nearly - 20 years and it is like being re-united with yourself.
This recent time also brought a new awareness of the plight of our endangered species and I recognised that I can help to raise awareness of their beauty by painting them in a new way. Endanged animal paintings are part of my 'Red dream series' in which scarlet is the dominant colour and I employ a contrast of naturalistic painting and abstract patterns and forms.
I studied at Harrogate school of art, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Arts University where I also lectured for 9 years.
The main influences upon my current style come from the psychedelia of the 1960-70s, Klimt, Doig and the Scottish colourists.
It was only when I canme to Vietnam that I was able to dedicate my life to painting so my exhibition history started here in 2013. Solo shows include:
2 events at Vin Gallery, Ho CHi Minh City
1 event at The Intercontinental Hotel, Nha Trang
1 event at Galerie des Ami, Hoi An
1 event at March Gallery, Hoi An
I have also published 3 illustrated books about Saigon, Hoi An and Sapa between 2013-2017 and am the only international artist to have work displayed on the front cover of 'Heriatge' magazine of Vietnam Airlines.
