Bruce Miller

I work from instinct and don't give much consideration to art theory. Academics bore me and can suck the fun out of anything beautiful. Academics have their place and host a framework for a kind of discussion that is valuable but not an end in itself. The art community tends to rely on this internal discourse which is ultimately self defeating as it makes art inaccessible to people not on the inside. I'm not interested in fighting that system, I just don't pay it any mind. As a result, I think my photographs are very much about aesthetics of the surface. Don't bother looking for hidden meaning but if you find it, it's a bonus. Free association is probably the most meaningful way to approach my art.
