Carolina Amigo

I focus my work on three main themes: Chaos, Fragility and the Individual.
Through black and white photographs and the play of light of her sculptures, the artist presents a depiction of a hidden inner world.
As in life, we are filled with joy and pain, fellow feeling and bitterness, hope and hidden longings. Part of us needs to emerge into the light and breathe. We decide what we are prepared to show of ourselves, but the truth—the things that nobody knows and no-one sees—lies deep down. Our true thoughts and desires remain buried, concealed, regardless of the forms we might adopt out in the open or in our relationships with others. True feelings are kept private and everything is caught up in the chaos that swirls around us.
The construction of this fragile framework shapes us. In a simple guise full of complexity, it creates us as individuals. The being is an accumulation of feelings, a fabric woven from the interaction of emotions, encounters, separations…
The load of this weight is what makes us unique; the delicate accumulation of experiences gives us this exclusiveness; we have achieved the burden that we carry, storing up and discarding fragments of ourselves.
