Carlos Bernar

I started painting in oils when I was 13 years old, I usually made still lifes and some landscapes, always figurative.
At 18 I went to study Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Throughout my 5-year career I worked hard on the fundamentals and techniques of drawing and painting, mainly figuration.
I expanded my studies at the Istituto per il arte e il restauro in Florence where I studied drawing and painting.
As I needed to continue learning different ways of making art, I was studying film at UCLA, where I also took the opportunity to do film practice.
For the next 25 years I have been combining cinema, animation, documentary, painting, photography, and performing arts production. Also I have worked in museography in diferent ways.
This has helped me to mature the way of transmitting concepts through art in its different disciplines. I've recently decided that the time has come to spend most of my time painting after growing up inside and having experimented with other art forms.
Although I continue doing figurative works from nature, I have been finding myself more comfortable in abstraction, possibly because the concepts or ideas that interest me now can be better transmitted in this way.
