Cecilia Collantes is a Peruvian interdisciplinary artist based in NYC. Intervened found objects, performance and powder pigments fixed on folded paper and canvas create the artist universe. Collantes artwork, relate to the concepts of time, transformation, and ritual expression, directly linked to the artist's Peruvian roots and their relationship to contemporary culture.
Collantes oeuvre on paper is often folded to artistically and geometrically enhance the dimensionality of the work. The artist refers to the use of powder (or dust) as a primordial material, an earthly and cosmic medium that humans and the universe share in a micro-macro relationship. Placing a commentary on the transformation of all matter, the artist expresses her desires to fix volatile elements as a metaphor of the undeniable impermanence of human condition.
