Charlene Mckay

As an Artist I work hard to develop art that speak to both me and others about the beauty that exists in the world around us. Much of my influence comes from Southern Africa where I grew up and might also include a British history which comes partly from where I live now but also, partly, from my genealogy.

Part of my process before I begin is to use a photo of the object and then adjust the light and colour through various apps and programs, adding or taking away layers and colours until I am satisfied with the outcome. This is then used as my inspiration for the final piece, whether that be a digital illustration or an original painted piece.

I do not merely want to capture the image with my brushes, rather, with careful colourful strokes from a brush or digital illustration, I want to give it new life and texture. I try with every finished work to bring out the beauty of the object that otherwise can seem lost in its natural world of colour.
