Checksy is a pioneering artist known for her distinctive visual language, "Checkered Expressionism", which intricately layers checkered patterns to explore anxiety, division, and connection within the human psyche. Rooted in the legacy of post-Korean War trauma, her work occupies a unique space at the intersection of postmemory art and feminist autobiographical abstraction. Rather than simple repetition, her checkered motifs fracture and reconnect—capturing the fragile rhythms of inherited wounds and resilience. Drawing on personal and collective histories marked by war, displacement, and emotional volatility, Checksy transforms these narratives into richly layered, evocative compositions. Employing acrylic, oil pastels, and traditional Korean hanji paper, her art maps the tensions between fragmentation and healing with profound sensitivity.
Her international recognition includes inclusion in HUG 100 Artists to Watch at the Royal Library, Copenhagen—selected by a jury from MoMA, Christie’s, and Artnet—and honors such as the UNV Certificate of Honor and designation as a Hug Visionary Artist.
