Choi Young

Hi, my name is Young CHOI, an artist working in Korea. My artworks are mainly paintings and drawing performances, and I have interested in the concepts of 'seeing' and 'drawing.'

A bout Painting works
I describe a visual phenomenon created by the distance between the left eye and the right eye via two screens as improvised drawings and hyperrealistic expressions. In artworks, it is shown as if eyes catch the moment that a hand grabbing a drawing tool like a pencil or brush is drawing something.

Each artwork is independently created but mostly two paintings complete one set. Each screen shows similar composition and the main theme which can divide artworks into two categories: one focusing on a hand creating a drawing and the other focusing on a created drawing. This is how two screens are added up to one artwork, implying the establishment of their correlation.
I sometimes use a magnifying glass for some parts such as blood vessels of the hand, wrinkles, or the texture of the drawing object in order to draw objects more realistically than it would be in reality itself.
