I am a photographer from the American South, working in experimental portraiture and fine art photography. When I am not working with other humans creating art with intention, I find myself drawn to finding art in the ordinary, noticing more than making art as I see it unfold right in front of me.
My images are often organic or earthy but may also be raw or quirky. Whatever the subject, I want my art to provoke a visceral reaction - to cause the viewer to smile, laugh, swear, tear up, gasp, or forget to breathe.
As I have begun to play with other art forms, creating art without my camera, I see that desire to inspire a feeling from the viewer manifest itself even more. The works I have made with brush strokes rather than shutter clicks are attempts to express and share some moment of overwhelming emotion. When I am making these pieces, I am like a child playing. Whether it be a feeling of calm or joy, a recent experience or a memory, my hope is that the movement and color in the image resonates in a similar way for the viewer.
